2011-2016
These projects began with winning a bid to create a standalone website for the Michigan City Parks Department. At the time, all the departmental information was contained within the main City's website which was built using outdated technology and practices. The Parks Department had an urgent need to break out of those limitations. I chose to use the Joomla content management system, which was at the time the best open-source option available.
Later, due to the success of the general Parks Department website, I was invited to create a website for the Washington Park Zoo as well. That project was built on the same Joomla platform as the Parks Department website, but with unique designs and features to suit the needs of the Zoo, such as a membership system. As it was funded through private donations to a separate non-profit entity, we were able to escape the budgeting constraints of the main Parks Department.
